* Can feel basic emotions and current mood of the
target (if you can see the target.)
** The character can now read the surface thoughts of
people -- generally what they are thinking about at that
moment. You must see the person to be able to do this.
*** Can read some recent memories, or plans for the
near future, from people's minds. You still must be able to see
the penon.
**** You can read deep thoughts and distant future
plans. The amount of information you get depends on your
successes. You can read the minds of people in adjacent
rooms without having to see them, but you may need descrip-
lions of them.
***** You can read multiple minds at once or discever the
deepest secrets of people, even things unknown to them-
selves or repressed by them. You can read the mind of
someone across the world, if you can see them (for instance,
if they are on television). You can even read the mind of a
clairvoyant who is observing someone on the other side of the
globe, and use that mental image to read the mind of the
person observed. Eerie.
Psychokinesis (also known ns Telekinesis): The ability to move things with your mind by thinking about it. Wits + Athletics is rolled against a difficulty of 8. If the roll is botched, your unconscious desires take over and start to throw things around at those you have a grudge against maybe even yourselfl Line of sight must be maintained to first pick up an object, but once you "hold" it, you do not have to see it again.
* You can levitate small objects off of a table with
great concentration. Physical gestures help (throwing, lifting, etc.).
Without them, the difficulty is one higher.
** You can affect small objects, such as bending a
spoon. Again, gesturing helps.
*** You can pick up an object in the next room and
throw it around. Gesturing in the direction you want it moved
helps. You can lift things that require half your intelligence
(as if your Intelligence were Strength) to lift.
**** You can lift things that require your full Intelligence
(again, as if your Intelligence were Strength), and no longer
need to gesture. You can pick up anything on the same block
as you. You can pick up multiple objects at once with
concentration.
***** You are a master of mind over matter. Anything in
sight can be picked up, as long as it is not heavier than your
Intelligence + 2 can handle. You can manipulate as many
objects as you have points of Dexterity.
Clairvoyance: The ability to use your senses at range, and see or hear things happening in other places. Usually it requires a focus, such as someone you know being at the place to be observed. Perception + Alertness is rolled against a difficulty of 8. While sending your senses out, you cannot see things happening where your body is. You also cannot affect events you witness in any way. You are but an ob- server.
* You can see things, in a dreamlike manner, within
any room in the house that you are in. These visions are easy
to misinterpret.
** You can see things anywhere in your town, and
sometimes hear them as well (3 successes), though the
sounds are distorted.
*** You can see and hear things anywhere within the
state or province. You can touch things also (3 successes),
though they feel vague and amorphous.
**** You can see, hear and touch anything in the country.
***** You can use all five senses on anything in the world.
Other Psychic Abilities are Precognition (ability to see the
future), Mediumship (ability to see and talk to spirits), OOBE
(Out-Of-Body-Experience, the ability to astrally travel), and
many others. Any player or Storyteller interested in psychic
powers should do some research on the scientific study in the
field of parapsychology. It's fascinating, and sometimes
convincing, reading.
Astral Form: This power is the ability to disconnect the spirit or soul from the body. The user must roll Perception + Meditation (difficulty 8). A botch indicates the character cannot again attempt to leave his body for 24hours. It is possible to travel rapidly while in this form. While outside his body, the character has no idea what is happening to it unless he is still in the same room with it. The character may not affect the material world while in astral form, but may physically contact other astral beings such as spirits or ghosts.
Astral travel is a difficult power to master. A point of Willpower must be expended to attempt to leave the restraints of the physical body. An additional point of Willpower is expended every hour the character remains away from her body. If the character has another psychic ability, it may be used while astral, although the difficulty of such use is increased by two.
* You can leave your body for
one minute per point of Stamina. The only sense to which you have access
is sight. You may not travel farther than a mile from your body.
** You can leave your body
for up to 10 minutes per point of Stamina. You can hear in your astral form.
You may travel up to 100 miles from your body.
*** You can now stay away
from your body for up to an hour per point of Stamina, and travel up to
1,000 miles away. By making a Charisma + Occult roll (difficulty 8) you
may manifest visually to observers as a translucent, ghostly version of
yourself. No verbal communication is possible.
**** You may stay away from
your body as long as it remains healthy, and may travel up to 4,000 miles
away. All senses except touch are now available to you. When visually manifesting,
you appear solid to observers (unless they touch you!)
***** You may astrally
travel anywhere in the world. You are now powerful enough to speak (albeit
in a whisper) when visually manifesting.
Psychometry: This is the ability to sense information about a person, place or event by touching an object of importance to that individual or place. Perception + Empathy is rolled (difficulty 8). A botch indicates a false reading occurs, although the character will believe she has gotten a true reading.
* You get vague, dreamlike
impressions of recent activities involving strong emotions involving, or
occurring around, the object.
** In addition to the above,
you get a snapshot-quality image of the person most closely associated with
the object.
*** You can register the
general gist of what an event was about (three successes) and the number
of people involved in the event. If concentrating on the object's owner,
you can determine general information about the subject, including approximate
age, emotional state, basic personality and the like.
**** You can clearly visualize
the event or the actions of the individual for the last 24 hours he was
around the object.
***** You now understand
the context of, and unspoken goings-on at, the event, or gain a clear insight
into the motives and plans of the individual at the last time she was near
the object. You also get an impression of the individual's whereabouts at
the current time.
